In June 2016, HomeFirst was awarded a five-year contract through the Office of Supportive Housing of Santa Clara County to run the Cold Weather Shelter Program (CWSP) for North and South Santa Clara County. This year, we operated the CWSP at the National Guard Armory in Gilroy and a new permanent location in the City of Sunnyvale. The City of San José again contracted with HomeFirst to operate four unique shelters - the Overnight Warming Locations, each with capacity of up to 30 beds per night. When an Inclement Weather Episode was called, the capacity for the Boccardo Reception Center increased to 350 total beds for adults. In March HomeFirst was also chosen by the City to take over operation of the Seven Trees Community Center shelter for San Jose flood victims.

This winter was particularly cold and wet, with nine weather incidents called as of mid-February. The result was a sharp increase in the number of people served, with more than 700 additional guests. This program is a community effort. We want to thank everyone who donated supplies, food, money, and time to help keep this program running.
