San Jose has opened the Via del Oro interim housing site—its first transitional housing project on private land—to support efforts in ending homelessness. Developed by DignityMoves and operated by HomeFirst, the 135-unit, quick-build shelter offers affordable, scalable, and ADA-compliant interim housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. Leased for just $1 a year, this cost-effective site highlights a model for addressing the housing crisis in Silicon Valley. With 24/7 support and wraparound services, Via del Oro exemplifies San Jose's commitment to innovative solutions for unsheltered homelessness.
