Albert's Journey Home
"His story serves as a reminder that connection to resources and community support are critical components to getting housed."

Emergency Interim Housing (EIH) Rue Ferrari
Albert didn’t find HomeFirst; HomeFirst found him. Albert rented a room in a house for five years, but when his roommate’s family moved in, there was no longer space for him. Without the means to rent an apartment alone, Albert ended up living on the streets. This was his first experience with homelessness.
After a period of living outside, our Outreach Team connected with Albert and helped him secure housing at Rue Ferrari, one of our interim housing sites, where he has lived for nearly three years. The site has served Albert well. It has enabled him to live with his dog, connect with many residents who look out for him, and receive on-site case management.
Soon, Albert will transition to permanent housing. He received a housing voucher from the Office of Supportive Housing (OSH) and is awaiting news of when he can move. As a football fan, Albert looks forward to having a place of his own, one with a TV to enjoy Sunday games, and a place to barbecue.
Albert’s journey from unexpected homelessness to awaiting permanent housing shows the impact of our outreach and interim housing programs, which in fiscal year 2024 served 1,929 and 578 people respectively. His story serves as a reminder that connection to resources and community support are critical components to getting housed.
