San Jose has launched the innovative Via del Oro interim housing site, offering 135 transitional housing units built on private land in under a year to help end homelessness. Developed by DignityMoves at a significantly reduced cost, the project supports the city’s goal of adding 1,000 interim housing units by year’s end. Mayor Matt Mahan emphasized its dual benefit—providing a path out of homelessness while resolving unsafe encampments. This scalable, cost-effective model marks a major advancement in addressing Silicon Valley’s homelessness crisis.
