Ubaldo's MOVE to Make a Home

"Ubaldo has shared that the apartment is the best thing he has ever had. He is happy to be housed, to have his health back post-accident, to see his kids doing well, to have a job, and to have found HomeFirst."

Ubaldo was referred to HomeFirst by MOVE Mountain View, an organization that runs a Safe Parking Program where he stayed for some time. He had become homeless when an on-the-job injury forced him to stop working and relationship problems left him without a place to live or the support of a partner.

Ubaldo was homeless for three years. For a period, he lived in his car with his two young children, a situation that was not safe for his kids or suitable for a family. Eventually, he purchased an RV and relocated himself, his son, and his daughter, to the MOVE Mountain View Safe Parking Program. While homeless, life felt dark. In addition to not having a home, Ubaldo had to recover both physically from his injury, and emotionally from his relationship. In fact, life was so challenging for Ubaldo during this time, that he even considered taking his life.

Ubaldo & his case manager

While staying at the Safe Parking Program with his kids, Ubaldo was referred to HomeFirst. He was enrolled in our Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) program, and within six months of enrollment, he received permanent housing placement. Ubaldo’s case manager played a crucial role in his journey to housing. She helped him navigate the stressful period involving custody paperwork, the housing search, and housing applications.

Ubaldo now lives in a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment in Sunnyvale, that he is thrilled with. The apartment provides him with space of his own, space for his kids, and plenty of room for his dog who was by his side while homeless. The apartment also has a washer and dryer in the unit, and a kitchen where he can explore his love of cooking. Ubaldo has shared that the apartment is the best thing he has ever had. He is happy to be housed, to have his health back post-accident, to see his kids doing well, to have a job, and to have found HomeFirst.
